European cover of Sonic Spinball Sonic the Hedgehog Spinball (... known as Sonic Spinball) is an adventure pinball game in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It was originally released for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis in 1993 and later ported to the Game Gear system. It was also released in 1994 on the Master System in Europe by Sega Europe (which is one of the last games made for the system and is quite hard to find), this was later released in Brazil by TecToy and in Portugal by Ecofilmes in 1995. This version is a port of the Game Gear version. The Mega Drive/Genesis version was released on the Wii's Virtual Console on March 12, 2007 in North America and April 5, 2007 in Europe. The game is a pun on pinball and Sonic's famous spin move.
In Sonic Spinball, you are Sonic in a world of Pinball objects. But although it's a Pinball game, the game feels totally unique. The story? Well, Sonic's in it again, isn't he? He and Tails begin to fight off another one of Eggman's little benders to control Mobius on the Tornado. The Tornado runs into a bit of trouble and while Tails tries to get some ground, Sonic is flung into the sea and into Eggman's sewage duct.
SEGA of America, Inc. and SEGA Europe Ltd. announced on Friday that four titles from the SEGA Genesis library, Sword of Vermilion, Vectorman, Sonic Spinball, and Beyond Oasis will soon be available for download on the Wii Shop Channel. Prices start at 800 Wii Points for SEGA Genesis titles. Wii Points can be purchased online or at select retailers at an MSRP of $20 for 2,000 points.

Sonic Spinball is essentially the logical continuation of a tradition of pinball themed levels that started with Spring Yard Zone on Sonic the Hedgehog. The game features four large pinball 'tables' - a sewer level, a geothermal power station, a robot factory, and a launchpad system. The player must guide Sonic through each of the four levels and collect all of the Chaos Emeralds, then fight Dr. Robotnik.
Sonic Spinball was released for the Sega Master System, Sega Game Gear, and Sega Genesis. It combined pinball elements with traditional Sonic action elements. An area in Sonic Adventure DX is based on this game. An inside joke in this game involves the text at the top of the screen saying "Yo! Move it!" if the player takes too long to start playing.

Sonic Pinball Party should not be confused with Sonic Spinball, which can be found on the Sega Genesis, the GCN (on the Sega Mega Collection) or the GBA (on the Sega Smach Pack). AS the pinball. It was a quirky title, but was rather fun (and the Smash Pack is only 10 bucks at most retail chains). Sonic Pinball Party is traditional pinball, with Sonic as the main character.
