The Social Sciences discipline is an interdisciplinary major housed within the Division of Social Sciences. The objectives of this field is for individuals to comprehend how each particular social science discipline structures, explains and advances knowledge, answers analytical questions, and deals with competing/conflicting theories as well as dealing with the ever-changing nature of this field. Individuals develop an area of concentration in a single discipline (such as Anthropology or Psychology) or an interdisciplinary social science area. Among the education discipline lies the field of Academics which houses its own sub-disciplines (see main article).

The School of Social Sciences at Manchester has moved into its new home - the Arthur Lewis Building. This new building means staff from Economics, Philosophy, Politics, Sociology and Social Anthropology are together in one building. The 5th Annual Hawaii International Conference on Social Sciences will be held from May 30 (Wednesday) to June 2 (Saturday), 2007 at the Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa in Honolulu, Hawaii. Honolulu is located on the island of Oahu. "Oahu" is often nicknamed "the gathering place". The 2007 Hawaii International Conference on Social Sciences will be the gathering place for academicians and professionals from social sciences related fields from all over the world.
