Snowboarding: Sports
built 648 days ago
Snowboarding's big kahunas knew their stuff: they say an untouched powder slope as a perfect, never-ending wave. So bobble-hats off to people like Jake Burton and Tom Sims, for having the vision and giving birth to this amazing sport.

Snowboarding Action There is an advantage to learning snowboarding. One advantage is that you may win more respect with your kids by bridging that generation gap. Apart from trying to win respect, the most rewarding part of snowboarding is that once you cross that line from skis to a snowboard, strap down your snowboard bindings, and start doing it, snowboarding becomes addictive and more fun than any sport you will ever try. There is an increasing trend of people you would not expect to be in this sport. More Big and Tall men, who can barely bend down to ratchet down the bindings straps, are buying a wide snowboard and getting into the sport. More moms are buying a womens snowboard and getting into the sport with the family.
Since then, Burton has fueled the growth of snowboarding worldwide through its groundbreaking product lines, its team of top snowboarders and its grassroots efforts to get the sport accepted at resorts. In 1996, Burton began growing its family of brands to include boardsports and apparel brands. Privately held and owned by Jake, Burton's headquarters are in Burlington, Vermont with offices in California, Austria, Japan and Australia. For more information, visit www.burton.com.

A snowboard is a board ridden by a rider in the sport of snowboarding. Analogous to a surfboard or skateboard for snow, a snowboard is attached to the rider's feet with bindings and ridden down snow-covered slopes or artificial ski slopes without the use of ski poles. The length and width of the board depend on the length, weight, shoe size and rider preference. The length tends to be about a foot smaller than the rider or between his/her collarbone and chin. A heavier rider will need a bigger board just as riders with big feet will need a wider board. Between the different disciplines in snowboarding the preference for longer/smaller, wider/less wide will be affected by which discipline the rider prefers. Freestyle boards tend to be smaller, wider and more flexible.
