The icebird group have released SNEStool, a SNESROM image manipulator which allows detection of ROM image format, and conversion between SMC/SWC, FIG, MGH, GD and RAWformats on your Acorn. It ... allows splitting and recombining of ROM images to allow them to fit on several disks. With this tool, game disk copiers can be used to dump and recombine ROMs, and you can be sure that any ROM image you download you'll be able to play.

The ROM in the PSX CD is just a very unique way to hold game data; it's NEVER executed. The Chrono Trigger CD does not not contain an emulator, nor is the ROM emulated. Square wrote a whole new kernel for CT which simply opens the ROM to grab the game data, like maps, enemy data, and scripts but doesn't execute the RPOM itself.

E.g. In the game F-Zero, at a particular position in the ROM, there is a number 3 indicating 3 lives to start off with. What a cheat code will do is replace this byte with, let's say, the number 9, so now when the game is run, the player starts off with 9 lives.

All licensed SNES games 8-bit mask ROMs, that usually have a non-standard pinout compared to similar EPROM parts. Nintendo did the same thing with the NES, presumably to optimize the PCB layout of cartridges, or perhaps just to be difficult. Typical mask ROM manufacturers for Nintendo are Sharp, Fujitsu, Sony, Toshiba, etc.

This tool patches more than 1 patch to one clean rom and makes copys of it Example: Put 2 of Anikitis hack patches in one folder. Give him the rom and he makes the two various games. Just give it a clean rom, the folder with all the IPS patches and the folder with the destination.
