LYCOS RETRIEVER
Slim Dusty: Records
built 234 days ago
During the war Slim Dusty and Shorty Ranger toured with travelling tent shows but after Noisy Dan died suddenly in 1945, Dusty returned home to take over the family farm. Two years later... he released When The Rain Tumbles Down In July, which was a hit. But Dusty received no royalties and was forced to continue working on the farm, singing and recording whenever he could.

In October 1946 Slim signed his first recording contract with Columbia Graphophone for the Regal Zonophone label. One of the six titles recorded was When the Rain Tumbles Down in July. Slim was paid little, and no royalties. The Slim Dusty-Shorty Ranger partnership broke up with Slim staying in Sydney while Shorty headed north looking for work.
