The Sisters of Christian Love are a small but growing community of committed Christian women who are serving the needs of Detroit area families — the poorest of the poor — affected by hardships of many kinds and now afflicted with cancer. The sisters transport the patients to hospitals for cancer treatments and medical appointments. They take the families grocery shopping and help them with any immediate physical needs, as well as pray with them and attend their funerals.

The Federation of the Sisters of Saint Joseph is a dynamic union of all the Sisters of Saint Joseph of the United States who claim a common origin in the foundation at LePuy, France in 1650. This includes over 7,000 members of twenty-three Congregations throughout the United States.
During it\'s run, Sisters earned one Emmy, which went to Sela Ward in 1994. In total, it received 5 Emmy nominations. Sisters was nominated for two Golden Globes during its six season run: in 1993 (for Best Series-Drama) and in 1994 (for Best Drama Actress-Sela Ward). Kurtz was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award in 1995 and Ward was nominated in 1996.

Like many Americans, the Sisters of Mercy came to this country as immigrant women. Since 1843 they have ministered to the needs of immigrant persons as part of their commitment to serve the most vulnerable and in response to the Gospel's call to welcome the stranger and to live in communion with others. Additionally, each Sister, Associate, and Companion in Mercy has been called to accompany an immigrant, a person who is migrating, or someone who has been left behind by family members migrating.

The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence believe that many institutions and social constructs are a source of dogma, hypocrisy, guilt and shame. This has led to encounters with the Catholic Church. An example is when the Sisters staged an exorcism of Pope John Paul II because of his harsh condemnations against homosexuality. His first major statement on homosexuality was not made until 1986 but it marked a significant departure from the hopeful changes which had begun to mark the previous years.
