Simutrans is a sophisticated, feature-rich transportation and economy simulation game, similar to Transport Tycoon. You create railroad and bus lines to transport people, goods, and mail between cities and industries. The objective is to grow the transportation infrastructure and the associated businesses without damaging the environment. While the graphics of the game is tile-based, the action quickly becomes highly complex. The game is under active development with new features being added regularly. Download here.

Simutrans is a transport and economic sim game. The graphics are not impressive, but very well done for a freeware game. There are versions of Simutrans for Windows, Linux and BeOS. All versions are quite playable, but still considered to be beta versions. Simutrans is freeware but not open source. The games interface language can be switched between Dutch, English, German, French, Finnish, Hungarian and Spanish by a menu.

Since recently, Simutrans features the concept of wayobjects. Also overhead street catenary (in addition to normal rail catenary) is possible. Also some trolley-busses exist as addon. Monorail and Maglev train addon packs, together with matching tracks and stations can be installed as addons. Different rail power supply systems ... exist as addon, like third-rail and fourth-rail power supply. Also matching subway vehicles can be obtained as an addon.

Das Computerspiel Simutrans ist eine Transport- und Wirtschaftssimulation, die kostenlos im Internet erhältlich ist. Es läuft auf den Betriebssystemen Linux, BeOS (Zeta) und Windows. Neuerdings sind stabile Versionen auch für Intel Mac OS X verfügbar. Simutrans wurde von Hansjörg Malthaner geschrieben, der das Programm bis Ende 2004 weiterentwickelte. Seitdem wird der weitere Fortschritt von einem Team betreut. Zahlreiche freie Mitarbeiter tragen zur Verbesserung des Spieles bei.

Simutrans is designed in such a way that the game engine is separated from the graphics displayed, this means that it is possible to easily replace all the graphics in the game if need be. This has led to the development of multiple sprite sets (known as "scenarios" or "pak sets"), maintained by various developers. The standard graphics set is known as pak64, and is the most common set seen in screenshots. This was the original graphics set and has changed much since earlier Simutrans versions. Pak128 has been developed to create a more detailed set of images that are twice the size of the standard pak64 images. There are ... other sets based on the pak64 and pak128 image sets.

Simutrans fue creado originalmente por Hansjörg Malthaner, que actualmente se ha retirado del desarrollo activo.
