Simpson: New York
built 224 days ago
The making of Autobiography was documented by The Ashlee Simpson Show, where Simpson was shown writing and singing songs. Simpson's publicity suffered when a performance on the October 23–24 edition of Saturday Night Live went awry. According to Simpson's publicists, her father and manager decided to use a vocal guide track because of problems she was having with her voice, beginning earlier in the day, that were caused by acid reflux. Although her first performance of the night—"Pieces of Me"—was successful, her second performance, which was supposed to be of "Autobiography" (at the time planned as her third single), went disastrously wrong: "Pieces of Me" mistakenly began playing, and Simpson's recorded vocals were heard when her microphone was not near her mouth. She subsequently walked off the stage and then apologized for the error during the show's closing.[40] Some viewers accused Simpson of lip synching, and the incident received wide-spread coverage in the news. Simpson followed the incident with a performance of "Autobiography" at the Radio Music Awards on October 25.[41]
Later in 1949 Simpson left South Carolina and headed for New York where more opportunities existed. He studied at New York University under William Bazioles, receiving an associate's degree in 1951, and at Cooper Union under Robert Gwathney. He supported himself with a job at a framing shop. There he met and talked to many major figures in the art world who came in to purchase frames, such as Jackson Pollock and Robert Motherwell. These artists critiqued his work, described as "semi-abstract collages" ("Visiting Visual Artists"). He received the support and encouragement of other painters.

overnight volunteer The overnight volunteer position in the Simpson men’s shelter is a great way to start out the new year helping others. Overnight volunteers (the opportunity is open to men and women) directly impact the lives of the 45 men who rely on the services that Simpson provides.
Ten years ago, Denise Brown was a fixture on television news, discussing the killing of her sister Nicole Brown Simpson, whose ex-husband, former football star O.J. Simpson, was standing trial for Nicole's murder.

The way in which the public viewed Simpson changed dramatically in 1994 when he was arrested and tried in Los Angeles for the murders of his former wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ronald Goldman. The jury acquitted him in 1995 after a highly-publicized year-long trial that became known as the "Trial of the Century." Following his acquittal in the criminal trial, the Brown and Goldman families filed a wrongful-death civil suit against Simpson. This time the jury found Simpson responsible for the deaths and awarded the victims' families $33.5 million in compensatory and punitive damages. Although Simpson's attorneys claimed that he had incurred more than $12 million in debt, the plaintiffs still believed he could make sufficient earnings to provide the reparations despite his new notoriety.
