From this day on Simpson decided to act as an independent unit. He did not report back to ambulance headquarters for instructions and for the first 4 days was technically a deserter until his CO (Commanding Officer), seeing the value of his work, agreed to turn a blind eye and approved his actions.

Simpson was drafted by the AFL's Buffalo Bills, who got first pick in the 1969 draft after finishing 1-12-1 in 1968. Early in his NFL career, Simpson struggled on poor Buffalo teams, averaging only 622 yards per season for his first three.

[I]t was not until August 1916, 15 months after Simpson was killed, that the British High Command issued an official directive to this effect. To the sporting world... Simpson might be known best as a football and Olympics commentator for ABC-TV and NBC-TV from 1969 through the 1980s. He provided color commentary for ABC from 1969 to 1977 and for NBC from 1978 to 1982. In 1983 he rejoined ABC as a member of the highly-rated Monday Night Football production, but that position only lasted until 1986. After a short hiatus from working televised football games, Simpson became a co-host for NBC's NFL Live beginning in 1989.

FTCR noted that while the Boston meeting is open to the public, Simpson was ejected from an earlier session of the group in Irvine, CA by a representative of the National Academies of Science. NAS is coordinating Alliance meetings. Without a formal commitment to openness, FTCR said, public access could be thwarted by the whim of a future chair.
