Simpson: African Americans
built 231 days ago
The defense ... argued that the police had rushed to judgment that Simpson was the prime suspect. Cochran and Bailey cross-examined the police officers who had gone to Simpson's home early on the morning after the murders. These officers had not sought a search warrant but went into the residence based on the belief that Simpson himself might have been the target of the murderer. The defense challenged this justification and attempted to show that one of the officers, Mark Fuhrman, was a racist who planted the bloody glove that morning. Events in the trial confirmed that Fuhrman had lied under oath when he said he had not said the word "nigger" in the past ten years. As the prosecution case proceeded, the defense used every opportunity to demonstrate to the predominantly African American jury that the police had engaged in a conspiracy to frame Simpson.

Although it would probably distress him to hear it, in some ways Simpson has achieved his greatest success as an art dealer, specializing in primitive art. There are very few African-Americans in this field. Simpson has achieved an international reputation as an art dealer. He has been described as "...one of the foremost authorities on African art in the world" (Hollingsworth, 1979), one of the few "preeminent dealers" (Dudar, 1982) and as "one of the best known American dealers specializing in Polynesian art..." ("Treasures of Hawaii"). This is a profession where few have the knowledge and skill to tell what is genuine and what is a fake. Curators and dealers from around the world come to his gallery to purchase primitive art.
