A #1 hit in Australia and New Zealand, Silverchair went on to become the first Australian artist since INXS to hit the U.S. Top 10, selling more than 2.5 million copies throughout the world. As Frogstomp and "Tomorrow" propelled Silverchair to musical superstardom through 1996, the group juggled memorable performances on the roof of Radio City Music Hall and tours with Red Hot Chili Peppers alongside full time schooling commitments back home in Newcastle.

This Australia-only rarities collection is an abbreviated version of the 2000 Sony set Best of Silverchair, Vol. 1. This makes it non-essential for fans, as most will already have the more comprehensive Sony release. The casual Silverchair listener will likely be more interested in Best of, as well, since it includes the breakthrough Frogstomp hits "Tomorrow" and "Pure Massacre." If imitation is the most sincere form of flattery, Kurt Cobain must be frowning mightily as he listens to Silverchair on the radio in heaven. On its wildly successful debut, Frogstomp, released in 1995, the teenage band plundered riffs and melodies from Seattle bands (especially Nirvana) with the audacity of a white-collar thief.

El 4 de febrero, Silverchair lanzó un álbum que los críticos que los habían llamado una vez One Hit Wonders quedaron sorprendidos con éste. A los 17 y 14 años demostraron una mejora en su propio estilo musical con Freak Show, con un sonido mucho más maduro que su antecesor, y logrando así un estilo propio y auténtico, silenciado ciertamente a muchos de la gente que los comparó alguna vez a las bandas de Seattle, como Nirvana, Pearl Jam y Soundgarden. La inclusión de nuevos sonidos e instrumentos hizo que fueran reconocidos por sus propios méritos recibiendo las mejores críticas que su antecesor pero no llegando al mismo nivel de ventas, logrando 1.5 millones de copias, un millón menos que Frogstomp. Por esta época la banda tuvo que hacer malabares para lograr acabar sus estudios en la secundaria y universidad para realizar sus viajes alrededor del mundo, para promocionar su disco.
