Custom Signals will be producing a wide variety of double and triple target interlocking signals to accompany Atlas’ block signal. These will ... include the BSC-1 controllers. To enhance the system, Custom Signals will also be producing the more advanced APB (Absolute Permissive Block) signaling system. It will be marketed as the CUSTOM SIGNALS’ MODULAR SIGNAL SYSTEM™. It will integrate with the Atlas-O controllers to give the correct aspects at passing sidings, junctions, diamonds, crossovers, etc. These advanced features will be sold separately so that you only purchase what you need or want.

Electrical isolation breaks the galvanic path between the input and output signal. That is, there is no physical wiring between the input and output. The input is normally tranferred to the output by converting it to an optical or magnetic signal then it is reconstructed on the output. By breaking the galvanic path between input and output, unwanted signals on the input line are prevented from passing through to the output. Isolation is required when a measurement must be made on a surface with a voltage potential far above ground. Isolation is ... used to prevent ground loops.

Millions of cell phone users are familiar with "garbled" conversations due to weak signal reception or signal interference. M-Stream technology applies advanced error correction algorithms to incoming voice streams, and reconstructs lost information to restore reception quality. Based on Broadcom's proprietary signal enhancement algorithms developed for mobile phones, M-Stream technology enables handsets to operate on standard GSM or WCDMA 3G networks with significant improvements in demodulated speech quality in poor signal conditions and measurable improvements in voice clarity.

This part of the Chapter outlines the other types of signal you are going to meet. Circuits which generate these signals are versatile building blocks and many practical examples are given later in Design Electronics.

Except for DC signals such as telegraph and baseband, all signal carriers have a definable frequency or frequencies. Signals ... have a property called wavelength, which is inversely proportional to the frequency.
