1. Alex Rodriguez -- Seattle Mariners
   After signing with Texas, Alex Rodriguez reportedly wrote a letter to Boeing executives highlighting the benefits of moving their corporate headquarters to the Dallas-Ft. Worth area. The A-Rod hating in Seattle really began when this became publicly known.
2. Jumpman -- Jumpman Jeter Vital
   Hard to believe as this may be, the Jumpman Jeter Vital (which drops on Saturday, March 31st) is the SEVENTH shoe that the Jordan Brand has designed for Yankee shortstop Derek Jeter. The first dropped in May of 2001, making Jeter one of the longest-tenured Brand Jordan athletes, along with Michael Finley, Eddie Jones—and, of course, Jordan himself.
3. Alex Rodriguez -- Texas Rangers
   The Alex Rodriguez plot thickens. It’s been rumored in several outlets that ARod and the Yankees are talking about a 10 year, $280 million deal. One of the sticking points is the $21 million the Yankees are responsible for from ARod’s last contract. The Texas Rangers would have paid that money if ARod had not opted out of his contract. But the opt out puts the Yankees on the hook. The Yankees are essentially asking for a $21 million discount as a result so if they are talking $280 million over 10 years you can expect that to work out to something less then $28 million the first few years followed by $28 million a year after that essentially making the contract worth closer to $260 million.
4. Dale Jarrett -- Teams

5. Portland Beavers -- New York
   The Portland Beavers, currently the AAA affiliate of the San Diego Padres, will announce tomorrow that the team has been sold to Merritt Paulson, whose background includes Senior Director of Marketing and Business Development at NBA Entertainment in New York. He formerly worked for HBO and was instrumental in launching HBO On Demand.
6. Derek Jeter -- Plays
   Jeter supported the Yankees' decision to make him their first round pick by winning the minor league Player of the Year award. He hit .344 at Triple A Columbus and the Yankees were chomping at the bit to get him in the lineup.
7. Derek Jeter -- Team
   Derek Jeter has always been an asset to the NY Yankees, in more ways then being their shortstop. Besides he skill and dedication, he sets the example and is a true inspiration for the young athletes of today through his playing skills and the promotion of teamwork amongst the players.
8. Derek Jeter -- Runs
   To his credit, Vinik was not overzealous like Jeffrey Maier, a 12-year old Yankees fan who reached over the right-field fence and pulled Derek Jeter’s flyball over it for a tarnished home run during the 1996 playoffs. Vinik did not interfere with a player like Steve Bartman did with Cubs’ left fielder Moises Alou in the 2003 playoffs. All Vinik did was use his height and his reach, which is pretty much what any loyal Red Sox fan would do.
9. Florida Marlins -- Games
   The Florida Marlins claimed right-hander Marcos Carvajal off waivers from the New York Mets organization Wednesday and moved infielder Aaron Boone to the 60-day disabled list. Carvajal had spent the season with Double-A Binghamton, where he was 5-10 with a 5.22 ERA in 28 games. He made 22 starts and had 92 strikeouts in 119 innings. Full story »
10. Derek Jeter -- World Series
    Derek Jeter's potential has never been in question. Ever since the day the Yankees decided to bring Derek Jeter along (to soon according to some) as their everyday shortstop. Jeter has done nothing short of paying off completely. By the time he's through with his Major League career, Derek could have a championship ring for each of his 10 fingers and maybe a few of his toes. He played on his fourth World Series winner in 2000, in just his fifth season as the Yankees' shortstop. Away from the field, few players are as popular as Derek Jeter.
