The Shih Tzu breed continues to be a dominate force in dog shows. They are classified in the “Toy” group. Check out the American Shih Tzu Club for more continually updated dog show results information at http://www.shihtzu.org/.
The American Kennel Club (AKC) and the American Shih Tzu Club (ASTC) define the Shih Tzu as a dog that weighs between 9 to 16 pounds as the official breed standard. Descriptions such as "imperial", "teacup", "tiny teacup" are used, but dogs that fit such descriptions are often an undersized or underdeveloped Shih Tzu. [4] Both the AKC and ASTC consider these variances to not be in conformity with the official breed standard. These tiny variances are ... not what was defined as a standard by the professional circuit.
There are many Internet sites which sell Shih Tzu puppies. Any registration papers that are not from American Kennel Club - AKC, have  little or no value. Reputable breeders do not sell  or air ship 8 week old puppies. A champion in a pedigree does not guarantee quality. Imperial or toy sized Shih Tzu are not rare or more valuable and often have long term health issues related to its size and poor breeding. Please go to the American Shih Tzu Club site and read the facts.
