In the history of bad decisions, Shelley Long's departure from Cheers to become a movie star was one of the worst. Just think, it could be her in those horrible weight loss commercials. Instead, she's been all but forgotten. Shelley hasn't been seen in theaters since 2000's Dr. T and the Women.

Before her work on Cheers, Shelley Long appeared a few TV movies and starred in two feature films, Caveman and Night Shift. After leaving the show after the 5th season, she did several nominally-successful movies, including Hello Again and Troop Beverly Hills. Most recently, she's appeared in The Brady Bunch Movie and A Very Brady Sequel.

Shelley Long was made for TV, but she began her career in the improv group Second City before trying out the movies. She debuted in the little-seen The Key (1977) but quickly moved to guest spots on various TV series, such as The Love Boat, Family, and M*A*S*H, where she was more likely to be seen. Long achieved success when she appeared as Carol Brady in the hit film The Brady Bunch Movie, a campy take on the television show The Brady Bunch. In 1996, she reprised her role as Carol Brady in A Very Brady Sequel, which had more modest success.
