Adelson says he was inspired to build the original Venetian while honeymooning in Venice in 1991 with his second wife, Miriam Adelson, a doctor with whom he has two children, 8 and 10. (He ... has adult children from his first marriage).

Adelson sued the union in 1997 for picketing on the sidewalk in front of the Venetian. He pursued the case to the U.S. Supreme Court, which declined to overturn an appellate court decision that the private sidewalk constituted a public forum.
