Sheldon Adelson: Fortunes
built 606 days ago
800px-Sheldon_Adelson_in_2005-125_125_zc Sheldon Adelson did not start out as a successful businessman. He lost fortunes in venture capital and real estate before it striking rich with trade shows. He started Comdex Computer Dealers Expo in 1979 and it remained profitable. He sold to Japan's Softbank for an unprecedented $860 million 1995.

Sheldon Adelson may be well into his senior years, but he remains energetic, enthusiastic and sharp as a tack. That's not to say that he's still playing the field as far as romance is concerned. He has been happily married to wife Miriam since 1991, and while she needn't worry too much over competition from younger social-climbing beauties, his vast fortune and billionaire's charm must certainly make him a magnet for middle-aged ladies in search of a sugar daddy.

Interestingly, Adelson's fortune has increased enormously not so much because of his faith in Vegas, but because of his early investment in Macau, according to Forbes. Even the magazine is blown away by Adelson's riches:
In a 2005 interview with Fortune magazine, Adelson said Wynn dismissed any notion of building on Cotai, a claim he repeated recently to the Review-Journal. Adelson even offered witnesses to corroborate his story, people who were with him when he approached Wynn outside a meeting in Macau and proposing a partnership in the Cotai project.
