Sheldon Adelson: American Solutions
built 604 days ago
Adelson is ... a fan of George W. Bush, having attained Pioneer status by pulling in at least $100,000 for the president's 2004 reelection campaign. In 2006 he kicked in $1 million to help Newt Gingrich launch his new 527 committee, American Solutions for Winning the Future. And veteran fundraisers insist Adelson brings more to a cause than his checkbook. "I found him to be a very good adviser and a very smart strategist," says Ken Mehlman, a former Republican National Committee chair and current rjc board member who is an outside adviser to Freedom's Watch.

Adelson ... helped raise money for the Republican Party. In late January 2008, he hosted President Bush "at a Nevada GOP fundraiser at his home in the Tournament Hills gated community" (Washington Post, February 4, 2008). He has also supported political campaigns through a $1 million donation to the Newt Gingrich-run "527" organization, American Solutions for Winning the Future, a so-called soft-money political action committee (PAC) that is not subject to the Federal Election Commission's PAC regulations (New York Times, January 17, 2008).

In 2006, shortly after the November elections, Adelson gave $1 million to Republican Newt Gingrich's 527 committee, American Solutions for Winning the Future, a group which Gingrich formed earlier that year. [4]

Few Americans have made as much money in China as Mr. Adelson, and he is a major donor to the Republican Party. Yet Mr. Adelson may well be the richest American that most people have never heard of.
