Sharon Tate was a rising young movie star when she was killed by followers of Charles Manson in 1969. A former homecoming queen, Tate had a small part in Eye of the Devil (1967, with David Niven) and a larger part in Valley of the Dolls (1967, with Patty Duke), among other films. She and Polish director Roman Polanski became a popular jet-set couple, and they married on 20 January 1968. Tate was pregnant with their first child when she and four friends were murdered in her Los Angeles home during a Manson killing spree. The grisly murders were the subject of Vincent Bugliosi's best-selling 1974 book Helter Skelter.

Sharon Tate had been a beauty all of her life. Even as a child she had won beauty contests. But her ambition was not to be a model but a movie actress. Finally in 1963 at the age of 22 she found a sponsor in Producer Martin Ransohoff. With Ransohoff's help, she landed parts in the series Beverly Hillbillies and Petticoat Junction, and the movies The Americanization of Emily and The Sandpiper.

Sharon Tate's work as an actress has been reviewed in the years since her death with modern film writers and critics such as Leonard Maltin writing that she displayed potential as a comedienne. A restored version of The Fearless Vampire Killersmore closely resembles Polanski's intention, and the film and Tate's performance have received praise with Maltin describing the film as "near-brilliant". Tate's work in Don't Make Wavesand The Wrecking Crewhave been described by Maltin as containing her two best performances, and the best indicators of the career she might have established. Eye of the Devilwith its supernatural themes, and Valley of the Dolls, with its overstated melodrama, have each achieved a degree of cult status .

Sharon Tate had up to this point carried only bit parts, but was considered a beautiful and rising actress. Tate met film director Roman Polanski then starred in Valley of the Dolls, followed by The Wrecking Crew with Dean Martin. She married Polanski in January 1968.

Sharon Tate was born on January 24th, 1943 in Dallas, Texas. She was the first of three daughters born to Colonel Paul and Doris Tate. Even as a child Sharon was very beautiful. At six months of age Sharon won her first beauty contest; she was crowned Miss Tiny Tot of Dallas Texas. Her very first jobs would include modeling.

Eventually, all of the victims of the massacre at Sharon Tate's home were identified. The young man in the car was a teenager named Steve Parent who had come to visit Garretson, the caretaker. The two victims found outside the house were Abigail Folger and her lover, Voytek Frykowski. In the living room joined by rope were Sharon Tate and Jay Sebring.
