One of the most important feature of Shannon's theory was the concept of entropy, which he demonstrated to be equivalent to a shortage in the information content in a message. According to the second law of thermodynamics, as in the 19th century, entropy is the degree of randomness in any system always increased. Thus many sentences could be significantly shortened without losing their meaning. Shannon proved that in a noisy conversation, signal could always be send without distortion. If the message is encoded in such a way that it is self-checking, signals will be received with the same accuracy as if there were no interference on the line. A language, for example, has a built in error-correcting code.

After Shannon is shot dead, Sayid places her body on the ground gently and tries to attack Ana-Lucia. While Sayid is tied up, Ana-Lucia talks to Shannon and tells her she is sorry. Later Sayid carries her body back.

Private George Shannon Private Shannon would have other lost -and -found episodes during his travels, most lasted only a few hours, but on August 6th, 1805 Shannon was in trouble again. This time while hunting near Dillon, Montana he didn’t find the party until August 9th. Again Shannon thought that the Corps was up river from him. Captain Lewis wrote: "Shannon arrived, and informed us that having missed the party the day on which he set out he had returned the next morning to the place from whence he had set out or first left them and not finding them that they were not above him as the river could not be navigated; he then returned to the forks and had pursued us up this river. He brought the skins of three deer, which he had killed, which he said were in good order. He had lived very plentifully this trip, but looked a good deal worried with his march."

Shannon has since held senior level financial positions at companies such as New Horizon Systems Solutions and EDS Canada, where he served as Financial Controller and Acting CFO. Shannon is a Chartered Accountant of Ontario and holds an Honors Bachelor of Commerce Degree from Laurentian University.
Shannon holds Vincent as the raft leaves ("Exodus, Part 1")  (promotional still) Before going to the caves, Shannon tried to bring Boone's suitcase full of clothes, but Shannon falls over dumping out all of Boone's clothes. Sayid helps her and she leads the group with Sayid to the caves. After Claire was attacked by Rousseau, Shannon was the first on the scene with Sayid and Charlie. At the caves, Sun tells Shannon about being punished on the Island. When Sayid came back, Shannon ran back into Sayid's arms when he arrived from rescuing Aaron.

Shannon was educated at Michigan University in 1936, where he earned his B.S. degree. Later he went to Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he studied both electrical engineering and mathematics, receiving a master's degree and a doctorate. For his master's degree in electrical engineering, he applied George Boole's logical algebra to the problem of electrical switching. During that time Boole's system for logically manipulating 0 and 1 was little known, but it is now the nervous system of every computer in the world. Then for his doctorate, he applied mathematics to genetics. Shannon received both his master's degree and his doctorate in 1940.
