Sevendust is an American alternative metal band from Atlanta, Georgia. They formed in late 1994 under the name "Crawlspace"[1] but later were forced to change their name to Sevendust when a group from the West Coast claimed rights to Crawlspace.[2] They were originally signed to TVT Records, but then released their fifth album with Winedark Records (through Universal Music) in the US, and Roadrunner Records overseas. Currently, they are signed to Asylum Records.

Overview: If there was one word to describe the past few years of Sevendust's repertoire, it would be evolutionary. Clint Lowery, the architect behind Sevendust's signature riffs, exited the group in late 2004 to join Dark New Day; Sevendust wasted no time filling the void left by Lowery's departure, replacing him with longtime companion Sonny Mayo of Snot/Amen fame. The band hit the studio and in October 2005, Sevendust released their first post-Clint opus entitled 'Next', which showcased a more raw and fierce direction for the Atlanta, Georgia natives. Not long after its release, Sevendust severed ties with Winedark Records and were left without a label for several months. Nevertheless, Sevendust returned to the studio and eventually landed a deal with Asylum Records to release their newest offering 'Alpha' in March of this year. The band is currently out on a headlining trek with Diecast, Invitro, and Red on select dates.

As the group’s 1,500-plus fans who showed up for the Sunday night gig can attest, Sevendust doesn’t mainline fury or frustration to kick out some pounding, pulsing metal. Rather, the band exudes a passion for the craft that compells it to push the emotion to the brink of sensibility, but no further. As it ran through Sevendust favorites like “Bitch” or “Black” Sevendust showed a restrained attack that highlighted Morgan Rose’s tom-heavy drum beats and Witherspoons tough guy melodies. But the problem with this sensible, classic approach is that Sevendust has always lacked the tangible visceral effect that peers like Slipknot used to wind kids into manic disciples of nu-age communion. Basically, Sevendust’s controlled sound was dry when paired with soul-cleansing acts like Korn. That could soon change, thanks to the band’s new music.
