On October 11, 2005, Sevendust released their fifth studio album, Next, on their second label, Winedark Records, distributed by Universal Music. In the process, Sevendust ... created their own record label, 7Bros Records. The first radio single off Next was the track "Ugly", released to radio August 9, 2005 followed by a music video. The track "Pieces" appeared on the soundtrack for the film Saw II.[5] Next debuted at #20 in the US, selling around 37,000 copies in its first week, relatively unheard of for a band of Sevendust's hard rock genre. Not much longer after the release of Next, Sevendust's former label TVT Records released a greatest hits package for Sevendust, titled Best of (Chapter One 1997-2004), the label's final Sevendust release.[6]
All of a sudden Sevendust became HUGE. They released their third record, Animosity last November and have since been selling out venues with their own headlining shows after wrapping up a tour with all that is annoying, Fuel. Sevendust, presently headlining a tour, alongside Gravity Kills and Flaw rolled through Philadelphia’s Electric Factory February 1, 2002. Sevendust playing in Philadelphia is a feat in and of itself. After asking front man LaJon Witherspoon why they never play Philly, he simply stated, "cause Philly never shows us any love." And truth told Philly rarely shows anyone any love.

"Alpha" was created while Sevendust was once again without a record deal. But once again, a label opportunity surfaced -- and it is one that would seem to carry fewer question marks than the Winedark deal.
Without a label backing them from the get-go, Sevendust went back to basics to create the new record. They produced Next on their own in a home studio in Orlando, Florida and took out a bank loan to finance the process.

After four studio albums, Sevendust released a live album on CD/DVD in 2004. “Southside Double-Wide: Acoustic Live” includes a cover of Nine Inch Nails’ “Hurt” as a tribute to country star Johnny Cash, who ... recorded the song not long before his death.
Sevendust would regroup and finish touring and head back into the studio. They returned in 2003 with “Seasons” and racked up another Gold Record. “Enemy” and “Face to Face” Later that year, Sevendust performed a special acoustic-only tour which was recorded for the album “Southside Double-Wide.”
