Sevendust is a great metal band with a charismatic frontman, Lajon Witherspoon. This collection is a great way for new fans to hear the band's best songs. If you're already a fan, you'll want to own the album because of the 4 bonus tracks.
Sevendust-916883 Sevendust is an American alternative metal band from Atlanta, Georgia. They formed in late 1994 under the name "Crawlspace" but later were forced to change their name when a group from the West Coast claimed rights to it. They struggled to find a new title but finally settled on Sevendust after bassist Vinnie Hornsby was looking through his grandmother's garage and found a can of plant pesticide called "Sevin dust." Vocalist Lajon Witherspoon's take on the name is that seven is a holy number...Read More >

Though Sevendust teased the crowd with a few new songs, the power of these tracks was lost in the Ramkota’s muddy acoustic setting. However, at a listening party for the new disc “Alpha” held at Nutty’s North earlier on Sunday, the scope of this new music was apparent. Because the format of the listening party involved the album being played without breaks for track listings or commentary, it wasn’t clear which songs were which. But the one detail that couldn’t be ignored was that this is easily the band’s heaviest record. The vocal melody is still there, but Rose and Witherspoon are more prone to scream out their feelings over chunky riffs that don’t sound too different from something the guys in Slipknot or Korn would have written seven years ago. The songs are intense in a way that will cause metalheads to grimmace in delight.
In 2003, Sevendust returned with their fourth album, Seasons, with the hit songs "Enemy", "Broken Down", "Face to Face" and "Separate". The song "Enemy" was used as the official theme song for WWE Unforgiven 2003. In 2004, for the first time in the band's career, they released a live album on a CD/DVD double disk package titled Southside Double-Wide: Acoustic Live. Both the CD and the DVD include a tribute cover of "Hurt" by Nine Inch Nails. In 2004, it was announced Clint Lowery had left the band due to musical differences, to be replaced by Sonny Mayo (from Snot and Amen).[1] Clint is now working with a new band called Dark New Day which ... features his brother, Corey Lowery. At roughly the same time, Sevendust and TVT Records parted ways.
Once Sevendust hits the stage, forget the smile and the charm, too. Lajon stalks about the stage like a gray wolf on the prowl. The stage is his territory, and the crowd his prey. They remain in his grasp for the balance of the evening, under the spell. After a few minutes, he's drenched in sweat and in a self-induced trance like Mr. Hyde, the music flowing from him and band mates Morgan Rose, Clint Lowery, John Connolly and Vinnie Hornsby. It's an evening that takes all the energy the crowd has.

In addition to Lowrey’s unexpected departure, the band was faced with the ungodly task of parting ways with longtime home TVT Records, a label that Sevendust had helped turn into an independent powerhouse. Facing adversity head on, the group rebounded and recruited former Snot/Amen guitarist Sonny Mayo as their new guitarist, founded their own 7Bros. Records and signed a partnership with Winedark Records. With all of this chaos surrounding them, Sevendust still managed to sit down and write one of 2005’s best hard rock records.
