1. Dr (Dos) -- Seuss Abc

2. Dr (Work) -- Dr . Seuss
   AB: Discusses how "The Butter Battle Book" by Dr. Seuss can be used to introduce the moral issue of war to young children. Studies the written responses of 1,187 children in grades kindergarten to 6 to the story. Notes that only the fourth- through sixth-grade students (who felt themselves beyond Dr. Seuss) understood the allegorical nature of the story.
3. Dr (Dos) -- Programs
   Dr. Beam Pro™ is a direct manipulation beam analysis environment. It differs from other beam analysis programs in that it is designed primarily for simulating and visualizing behavior as opposed to simply performing analyses. Once you have learned to use Dr. Beam Pro n(5 - 15 minutes) designing a beam becomes as simple as applying loads and supports and watching what happens.
4. Hans Christian Andersen -- Hans Christian Andersen Award
   The Hans Christian Andersen Award is the highest international recognition given to an author and an illustrator of children's books. Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II of Denmark is the Patron of the Andersen Awards.
5. Dr (Work) -- Books
   AB: Intended as an aid to primary school teachers, this handbook presents a literature unit based on the children's book, "The Cat in the Hat" (Dr. Seuss). It begins with sample lesson plans, a unit planner, getting to know the book and author, and suggestions for using the unit activities. Next, a section offers unit activities focusing on unit management, including a rainy day bulletin board, and reading folders. The handbook then presents a section of unit activities focusing on language arts, including pocket chart rhyme card patterns, story questions, stick puppet patterns and activity ideas, context clues, and a reading wheel. The next section contains unit activities that focus on related curriculum, including math code, weather makes a difference, house rules, painting Seuss-style, and kites.
6. Multimedia Search -- Information
   Students will search internet resources, print and multimedia encyclopedias to research information on Dr. Seuss. 7. Cathy Rigby -- Life
   "It's about JoJo trusting his imagination and learning how to deal with life," Rigby explains by phone from San Diego, where she's performing this week. "If you took away the Seuss aspect, it's a story about being trusted and being accepted. The cat gets to be the facilitator, and whenever things get comfortable for JoJo, he throws in a roadblock. It's a metaphor for life; just when you think you've got things all figured out, life throws you a curve."
8. Ron Howard -- Imagine Entertainment
   The film, directed by Ron Howard and starring Jim Carrey, is scheduled to be released in November 2000. To commemorate not only the film but the creativity of the late Dr. Seuss as well, Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment have paired with the United States Postal Service in a joint promotion offering stamps featuring the lovable characters of Whoville.
