Serial ATA is faster. Currently Serial ATA transfers data at a rate of 150 megabytes (MB) per second and will likely advance to 300 MB and 600 MB per second in the near future.

RapidIO The FS4410 is a low-cost Serial RapidIO protocol analysis probe for use with Agilent Technologies logic analyzers. It will be used by designers involved in development of computers and peripherals incorporating the Serial RapidIO architecture. The FS4410 allows non-intrusive probing of Serial RapidIO buses at a data rate of 3.125 Gbps.

UART-based communication systems have a master of the serial data line and remote transceivers. The master controls the message traffic on the serial data line by polling all of the remotes (control modules). The master then waits for the proper response. The communication takes place over a single wire by pulling the voltage low to create a message. As a result, when communication is not occurring, the signal voltage on the data line remains high (usually 5 volts). The data line ... has a fixed pulse width limiting its message capabilities.

[G]eneration serial data bus architectures including SATA Gen-2 provide an order of magnitude greater data throughput than possible only a few years ago. The accelerating performance of data rates is making design efforts even more challenging and adds design complexity that can hinder time to market and increase development cost. Consequently, engineers need powerful test equipment and software capable of greater performance, more extensive analysis, and improved efficiency. The new TekExpress SATA automated compliance test package from Tektronix provides unattended compliance testing for SATA Gen-1 and SATA Gen-2 that helps customers to streamline test operations and assists them with bringing new products to market quickly.

In telecommunication and computer science, serial communication is the process of sending data one bit at one time, sequentially, over a communication channel or computer bus. This is in contrast to parallel communication, where all the bits of each symbol are sent together. Serial communication is used for all long-haul communication and most computer networks, where the cost of cable and synchronization difficulties make parallel communication impractical. Serial computer buses are becoming more common as improved technology enables them to transfer data at higher speeds.
Data capture consists of collecting both the serial channel characters and the state of the RS232 lines. Serial captures both the line changes and the received characters. Both types of these events are placed in the data buffer. The current line states are ... captured during each character event.
