Qualität statt Quatsch Seit Februar 2003 fungiert Senta Berger als Präsidentin der Deutschen Filmakademie, die in diesem Jahr erstmals über die Vergabe des Deutschen Filmpreises entschied. Als lautstarke Gegnerin der „infantilen Tendenzen und Verflachung der TV-Unterhaltung“ kämpft sie für Qualität und macht sich für den europäischen Film stark. Um diesen Produktionen ein Forum zu bieten, übernahm sie vor Jahren mit ihrem Mann das Kino Toni in Berlin-Weißensee. Denn, so ihre Maxime: „Die Zuschauer verdienen immer das Beste – und das will ich dort zeigen.“

In Deutschland gründete Senta Berger 1965 mit ihrem späteren Ehemann, dem Arzt, Regisseur, Schauspieler und Filmautor Michael Verhoeven, die Produktionsfirma Sentena GmbH. Gemeinsam feierten sie große Erfolge mit Filmen wie "Wer im Glashaus liebt" (1970), "Mitgift" (1976) und Wim Wenders "Der scharlachrote Buchstabe" (1972). Auch als Fernsehschauspielerin und Moderatorin wurde Senta Berger immer beliebter. Zu großer Popularität beim deutschen Fernsehpublikum verhalf ihr die Hauptrolle in Helmut Dietls Kult-Serie "Kir Royal" (1985/1986).

When Senta Berger went to Hollywood in the early 1960s, the old commercial certainties had vanished. Unsure of what would attract paying customers, and increasingly being taken over by big business conglomerates, the studios were trying to reduce their costs by employing new acting talent with a lower price tag, while granting more and more freedom to directors and stars with proven box-office success.

Berger's parents were not rich, but they tried everything to meet the desires of their daughter. Her father was a musician. Senta first appeared on stage at the age of four, when her father accompanied her singing on the piano. At the age of five she started ballet lessons, but her dream of a career as a dancer was destroyed when her teacher did not like the physical changes in Senta during puberty.
