Senses Fail

A year before Senses Fail were officially born, Nielsen posted an ad for band members on a musician's Web board. Guitarist and background vocalist Garrett Zablocki responded, and the two started jamming with guys Zablocki knew from a previous band he had been in. Guitarist and background singer Dave Miller and drummer Dan Trapp joined when their other group broke up, and after going through a couple bassists who didn't work out, Senses Fail nabbed ex-Tokyo Rose member Mike Glita. The band wrote and practiced a bunch of originals, and lined up gigs at VFW halls and small clubs throughout New Jersey.
Oh yes, the outspoken singer of Senses Fail had some harsh words for Panic! At the Disco recently, saying, "so many bands feel it's necessary to look intelligent, and create an image and credibility. The kids in Panic! At The Disco claim they’re into Morrissey and the Smiths. That’s bullshit, they like Blink 182.... Bands worry too much about their image, and it's lame.” And hey, Pete Wentz, he has some words for you, too....

Bergen County, NJ's Senses Fail consisted of vocalist James "Buddy" Nielsen, guitarists Dave Miller and Garrett Zablocki, bassist Michael Glita (ex-Tokyo Rose), and drummer Dan Trapp. Forming in 2002, SF developed a slick amalgam of post-hardcore chuggery and emo heartbreak that was solidly in line with the sound of other New Jersey groups like Saves the Day. Senses Fail quickly issued a debut EP through Boston indie ECA and began to play out frequently while spreading the word with a thriving Internet presence. Drive-Thru Records took notice and signed the group in late 2002. A revamped version of the From the Depths of Dreams EP appeared in April 2003; it featured better mixing, one new song, and an acoustic version of "Ground Folds." A tour with the Used wrapped up the year in a successful fashion. After more heavy touring and a bit of label drama, 2004's Let It Enfold You, named after a Charles Bukowski poem, was released that September through Vagrant/Drive-Thru; a deluxe edition with bonus tracks was issued a year later.

With the release of Senses Fail's second full length album, Still Searching, in Fall of last year, the band cemented themselves as not only a staple in the pop-punk scene, but in the worldwide music scene. This new deluxe edition of that album showcases the band's continued growth as songwriters. Featuring six extra tracks, "Battle Hymn" and "Champagne" are two brand new songs that the band wrote in their downtime since the release of Still Searching, and they might be among the best, catchiest songs they have ever written. "Salvation" is a cover of the Cranberries hitsingle, and the other three songs are b-sides from the Still Searching recording sessions. The DVD portion of this deluxe edition is over one hour of footage from the band's headlining tour last fall. It showcases the band behind the scenes, on the tour bus, and hanging out in socialsettings.
