It's important to be respectful of this because religion is very important in Senegalese life. However, don't be afraid to ask questions about Islam -- for the most part, Senegalese people love to talk about it!

However, when the President signs an official document, he signs on the behalf of the sovereign people who elected him and not "himself". Therefore, there is no legitimate reason to put the personal emblem of the President on such a document.

The former American Lutheran Church began work in Senegal during the mid-1970s as part of an emphasis on outreach to Muslims. A very small Christian community came into being in the early 1990s, and the work of educating new Christians is a high priority. Since the population of Senegal is close to 100% Muslim, people have very little idea of what a Christian church is all about.

This team has grown and today ministers in friendship evangelism, Bible studies, literature, and tape distribution, gospel film presentation, evangelistic worship services, and a reading room in the market.
