Senator Joe Biden: Democrats
built 237 days ago
The Joe Biden presidential campaign, 2008 began as Senator Biden announced his candidacy for President of the United States on the January 7, 2007 edition of Meet the Press. He officially became a candidate on January 31, 2007 when he filed papers with the Federal Elections Commission. Biden had previously run for president in 1988, but failed to get the nomination of the Democratic Party. If elected Biden would have been the first sitting Senator and Roman Catholic to be president since John F. Kennedy and the first President to be born during World War II. Biden dropped out of the 2008 race on January 3, 2008, after a poor performance in the Iowa caucus.[1]

On another front, Joe Biden “nails it”, when he indicated he would NOT cut funding for the troops on the ground as a tactical means to put more pressure on the Bush administration to “end the War”. During the Meet the Press interview, Joe Biden made a compelling, extremely articulate and impressive plea to his colleagues to NOT use funding cuts as a political football at the expense of American military lives. He spoke primarily about the new Cougar HumVee upgrades that are virtually IED proof which are needed to replace current HumVees in theater. The upcoming funding bill if NOT approved would cut funding for these vehicles and would ... DIRECTLY place more American lives at risk. When asked if he would go along with other Democrats and vote to cut funding for the war at the expense of gaining the nomination of the Presidency from his party, he responded in one of the most sincere statements I have seen a politician make on Meet the Press in a very long time. He said he would make the choice to support the troops and the funding even at the expense of loosing the Democratic primary race.

Long-time Delaware senator Joe Biden is best known for his frequent appearances on Sunday morning talk shows, his off-the-cuff speaking style, and for the most high-profile hair transplant in recent politics. A longtime standard bearer for a moderate, conciliatory style of Democratic politics, he is largely perceived as an inside-the-beltway specialist. Though he has run somewhat to the left of Hillary Clinton particularly regarding opposition to the Bush Administration and on issues of constitutional law, his past record has alienated him from many traditional liberals and a vast majority of online progressives, while his outspoken style has yet to attract other voters.

Joe Biden was the most qualified Democratic candidate and would have made an excellent president. He should have been in the 1/4/08 New Hampshire ABC debate. It would have been the perfect vehicle and format for him to show his stuff in otherwise lackluster debate. Hopefully if a Democrat is elected, Joe will serve as Secretary of State.
