The Seattle Seahawks are a National Football League (NFL) team. The Seahawks have called home three different stadiums, the Kingdome from 1976-1999, Husky Stadium from 2000-2001 and they have been home at Qwest Field since 2002. The Seahawks were founded in 1976 and are one of four teams playing in the Western Division of the National Football Conference (NFC). On June 4, 1974, the National Football League awarded its 28th franchise to Seattle to play in the 64,984-seat Kingdome. The Seahawks entered the National Football League (NFL) as an expansion team along with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1976. A year later, they switched conferences with their expansion partners, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and joined the AFC West. They played in the American Conference until 2002, when, with league realignment, they were returned to the National Football Conference.

After more than two decades of playing in a stadium with another tenant, the Seattle Seahawks moved into their own stadium in the summer of 2002. After spending more than two decades at the Kingdome; a multipurpose dome facility, which was ... the home of the Seattle Mariners (MLB), the Seahawks wanted a new facility for themselves along with the Mariners. In the mid 1990's voters approved bonds for two new stadiums to be built. A new baseball only stadium, Safeco Field, was constructed adjacent to the Kingdome. However, the Seahawks new facility was to be constructed on the same site as the Kingdome. In order for the new stadium to be built, the Kingdome had to be imploded.

The 2005-2006 Seattle Seahawks will officially put the team from the Northwest on the radar for the rest of the National Football League. Because of a lack of television coverage and a history of mediocrity, the Seahawks have gone largely unnoticed over the past two decades. However, the team’s NFC West title and running back Shaun Alexander’s single season record of 28 touchdowns appears to be just what the Seahawks needed to erase the lack of respect.
