1. Microsoft Update -- Windows Xp
   Software Update Services (SUS), a free Microsoft Windows Server-based tool that gives organizations a centralized and automated way to distribute and install critical OS fixes and security rollups on Windows systems, is getting an upgrade. Renamed Windows Update Services (WUS) and now in a broad beta for a first half of 2005 release, the new product coincides with an upgrade to Microsoft’s Windows Update Web service for distributing software updates, which will be renamed Microsoft Update. The combination will eventually support updating of all Microsoft products, and it provides some capabilities sorely lacking in SUS, especially status reporting. Although Systems Management Server (SMS) still provides many more capabilities, WUS could appeal to organizations that cannot justify SMS’s price tag and greater complexity.

3. Ringbacktones
   Ringbacktones are pieces of music, sounds or spoken messages that accompany free line signals on the mobile phone. They are making the caller’s waiting time more enjoyable. Vodafone Spain currently offers over 320 Ringbacktones and the product line is being expanded continuously. Vodafone Spain mobile customers are able to activate Ringbacktones via the web and WAP.
4. Firefox -- Information
   Firefox keeps you in control of the Web pages you’re viewing, blocking annoying pop-ups. Firefox’s pop-up blocker notifies you when pop-ups are blocked via the information bar or icon on the lower right of the screen.
5. Cell Phone Numbers -- Services
   Cell phone technology company Qualcomm, through its MediaFlo subsidiary, and wireless operator Crown Castle International, through its Modeo subsidiary, are both investing millions of dollars in new mobile networks that will broadcast live TV programming to cell phones across the country. They both hope to become the big players in a market some analysts believe will see explosive growth in the coming years.    The blogdex project was launched by researchers in the MIT Media Lab to crawl the Web and gather data from thousands of blogs in order to investigate their social properties. It gathered this information for over 4 years, and autonomously tracked the most contagious information spreading in the blog community, ranking it by recency and popularity. It can ... be considered the first instantiation of a memetracker. The project is no longer active, but a similar function is now served by tailrank.com.
7. Ebay Auctions -- Users
   AwayAuction for eBay downloads auctions to a user's mobile phone, allowing them to view the results virtually anytime, anywhere. Users can view a description and image of each auction along with current information, such as the latest bid and time remaining. Countdown timers and auction alarms ... inform users when auctions are close to ending, enabling them to place bids from their BREW-enabled handsets with the push of a button. As an eBay- Certified Solution, AwayAuction does not require registration at a third-party Web site but rather, it directly accesses a user's eBay account.
8. Cellular One -- Att Wireless
   Before offering the course to all managers, Cellular One and Integral Talent Systems ran a pilot project involving some vice presidents, directors, and managers. "Everyone, to a person, said the workshop was practical and should be conducted for other managers," King says. Now it's part of the company's mandatory training. The presence and commitment of senior managers was invaluable in ensuring the program's success, King says. That commitment has continued.
