In 1996 he started learning the Scottish-Gaelic language in Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, the Gaelic college on Skye island. Since 1999, he has worked as a correspondent for the BBC Gaelic speaking radio nan Gàidheal and was the first German to host a programme in Gaelic for the television documentary series Eòrpa.
