Scott Wimmer: Richard Childress Racing
built 656 days ago
Richard Childress Racing will be the first team to utilize Chevrolet's new R07 motor when Scott Wimmer hits the track with the No. 33 Holiday Inn Chevy on Friday at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Per NASCAR regulations, the R07 displaces a maximum of 358 cubic inches. In contrast to the SB2's "mirror port" cylinder heads, the R07's cylinder heads resemble production LS-series small-block cylinder heads with alternating intake and exhaust valves.
Wimmer is listed in the Richard Childress Racing #33 Holiday Inn Chevrolet which he drove to a 12th place finish in the 2006 series finale at Homestead. This is the first of at least two Cup races he will drive in the #33. Wimmer is ride-sharing the #29 Chevrolet for RCR in the Busch Series with Jeff Burton as well. Each will drive 17 races in that car and another driver will drive the 35th race.
Wimmer won't race in the Daytona 500 this year as he had hoped. Wimmer drives part time in both the Nationwide and Sprint Cup Series for Richard Childress Racing, but Kirk Shelmerdine drove RCR's fourth car in the opening Sprint Cup testing this week at Daytona International Speedway, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Holiday Inn expanded its winning 2006 NASCAR Busch Series program with Richard Childress Racing in 2007 to a full 35-race season of competition with co-drivers Jeff Burton and Scott Wimmer. This expansion follows last season's 10-race program with Burton behind the wheel of the No. 29 Holiday Inn Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS.
