Scott Wimmer: Races
built 647 days ago
Just a few weeks ago Scott Wimmer celebrated as his #29 Holiday Inn Busch team won the owner's championship. Wimmer split time behind the wheel with teammate Jeff Burton and together accounted for 5 wins, 17 top five, and 27 top tens. Their rise to the top of the owner's points truely embodies what that championship stands for, a complete team effort. Wimmer's schedule for next year looks the same; part time Busch, maybe more, and even a few Cup races mixed in.

Wimmer made his Nextel Cup debut in 2000 with Bill Davis Racing at Atlanta. He qualified the #23 AT&T Pontiac in 31st position and would race to a finish of 22nd while leading nine laps during the race. He would return to Nextel Cup racing in 2002 driving in three of the eight races he attempted. He would post a best finish of 17th during the year driving mainly in the #27 Dodge. In 2003, he would race in six of his seven attempted races. His first three attempts came with a third Bill Davis Racing team, again using the #27.

He moved down south, and in 1997 he was the Rookie of the Year in the Hooters Cup late model series. He later finished second for the Rookie of the Year in the American Speed Association (ASA) series.
By 14, Wimmer competed in the Junior Olympics in downhill skiing and the slalom. He finished 13th out of 150 competitors in the national competition. In 1991, 15-year-old Wimmer traded the three-wheelers and skis in for four wheels and made his stock car racing debut at Wausau (Wis.) Speedway.

Green flag pit stops began early in the race as Wimmer quickly moved into the ninth position on lap 13. The tide changed on the following lap as Wimmer reported a flat right-front tire heading into turn one. By the time Wimmer eased his way around the eighth turn on the two-and-a-half mile road course, the field put the No. 29 a lap down. With damage to the right front fender the team went to work servicing the vehicle. Wimmer piloted the machine back on track in 37th.
