Scott Wimmer a NASCAR Rookie driver was arrested and convicted of impaired driving and fleeing the scene of an accident. Wimmer's blood alcohol level was recorded at .15 of a percent, nearly twice the legal limit in North Carolina.

Shortly after the start of the CARQUEST Auto Parts 300, Wimmer reported that the Duraflame Ford had gotten incredibly tight. Following adjustments during a round of green flag pit stops, Wimmer began moving up through the field. Wimmer was running 30th around lap 80 when his radio stopped working. The crew could not hear him and he could not hear the crew until they were able to switch radios on lap 148.
LAP 212: GREEN - Scott Wimmer is getting everything he can out of his car, wiggling every time off of the corners. He’s still running the fastest laps but he’s going to run out of time.

Wimmer's career began in his youth, when he began working on his uncle, Larry Detjens's, racecar.[1] Detjens was a champion late model racer who competed at Slinger Super Speedway and Wisconsin International Raceway. Detjens had the Slinger Nationals race trophy named after him after his death in 1981. Wimmer would work on his brother Scott's cars after Scott started racing at age 14.[1]
