Scott Wimmer's roots run deep in racing. He hails from the short track hotbed of Wisconsin, and his family has long been involved in oval track racing. As a Nextel Cup rookie for Bill Davis Racing, Wimmer has had his share of ups and downs this year--including an off-track incident that left him doubting his future in the sport. Wimmer recently sat down with Stock Car Racing to discuss all that's happened in his brief Cup career.

In a race that was postponed to Sunday due to rain, Scott Wimmer got his second career win in a month. Wimmer, whose #23 Pontiac has gone most of the year without sponsorship, is rumored to move to Winston Cup if a sponsor can be found. Suite101.com's NASCAR Busch Series has learned that Scott Wimmer will return to the #23 Bill Davis Racing.com Pontiac in 2003.

It's in the mail for Wimmer: For Scott Wimmer, the news he wouldn't be back in Bill Davis' #22 Caterpillar Dodge came in the mail, two weeks after he'd been told his job was safe. "I'm kind of shell-shocked over that," he said. "Two weeks ago I was in the car, then I got a letter in the mail saying I'm out," he said. Wimmer began racing the Busch Series in 2000 with Bill Davis Racing. He would attempt four races in the #20 AT&T Pontiac and make three of them with a top finish of 18th. He would then race the full season in 2001, driving the #23 Jani-King Pontiac to a best finish of third at Nashville. He would finish the season with two Top 5’s, eight Top 10’s and an overall points finish of 11th. He would race the full season again in 2002 with sponsorship from Siemens for only 18 races. New England Financial and AMI were able to sponsor Wimmer’s #23 Pontiac for two races... Bill Davis would have to race the #23 in 14 races without a sponsor.

NASCAR driver Scott Wimmer has filed a lawsuit against former employer Bill Davis Racing, asking for $1.2 million in unpaid salary for the 2006 season. The lawsuit alleges Davis' team did not follow correct procedure when it fired Wimmer, who currently drives a part-time NASCAR Busch Series schedule for Richard Childress Racing

Wimmer staying at BDR in 2006: General Manager Mike Brown said Friday that Scott Wimmer will remain with Bill Davis Racing next season. Wimmer's contract goes through next season. There had been speculation that Wimmer, 33rd in the point standings, might not remain with the team after this season.(Roanoke Times)(10-8-2005)
