Scientology: Scientology Church
built 197 days ago
The founder of Scientology was born Lafayette Ronald Hubbard in Tilden, Neb., on March 13, 1911. According to church biographies, Hubbard traveled extensively through Asia as a teenager and studied Eastern religions and philosophies. He later served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during World War II and went on to become a prolific and popular science fiction writer. His best known work is the book Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health, which was published in May 1950 and became a nationwide bestseller. His writings on Dianetics and Scientology inspired Scientologists to form the first Church of Scientology in Los Angeles in 1954. He ... wrote on the subjects of education, business management, drug rehabilitation, morals and art.

Fair Game doesn't just apply to their own members; the Church of Scientology has a long and storied history of antagonizing external critics using smear campaigns, physical threats, and overwhelming litigation. For historical reasons, Scientology's holds longstanding grudges against:

Vienna (OTS) - The "Marathon for Religious Freedom," which was organized by the Scientology Church, started on June 25 in England. Moslems, Jews, Christians, Scientologists and leading human rights activists are participating [in the marathon], which is already a great success. The run, which will go through eight European countries, will end on August 10 in Frankfurt with a big demonstration for religious freedom, at which celebrities, as well as several thousand visitors, are expected [to attend].
If The Church of Scientology got the real name of the party in question from US authorities, they did so illegally. A commander at the Los Angeles Police Department said he knew nothing of the LAPD cooperating with Interpol on this matter. This is not to say someone in the 10 thousand member department did not; but, if they did relay the name to the Church of Scientology, they would have done so illegally. Handing the name of a suspect in a criminal investigation over to a civilian agency (CoS is not law enforcement--as they would have use believe), is a crime. The FBI would never legally turn the information over to civilians either. It would seem that CoS is misstating the truth by saying the know the identity of the particular anonymous poster.

Scientology, officially known as The Church of Scientology, was founded in 1953 by L. Ron Hubbard (1912-1986), and popularized through his 1950 book, DIANETICS: The Modern Science of Mental Health (over ten million copies sold). Dianetics was originally intended to be Hubbard's psychotherapeutic answer to the techniques of modern psychiatry. (The word "Dianetics" means "through the soul," and promises to reveal "the single source of all man's insanities, psychosomatic illnesses, and neuroses.") In addition to Dianetics, Scientology produces scores of other publications. A short list includes Source, The Delphian, Advance!, and The Auditor.
