Scientology: Church
built 652 days ago
On January 24, the Los Angeles Times contacted Scientology for comment on the story, but the request was declined. That evening... the Church of Scientology's OSA faxed what was apparently a signed declaration by the woman involved to the Times. This declaration gives an account of the incident which is virtually identical to that posted by "-AB-," including the erroneous detail that Klemesrud had a 10-gauge shotgun (it was a 12-gauge, as described in the police report). No newspaper article on the incident was published.

The report which said that Lisa McPherson died in 1995 under unexplained circumstances in a Scientology Church center in Clearwater, Florida, is incorrect. According to medical opinion she died of a lung embolism. It can be seen from a document from the Florida state attorney's office that the state attorney's office itself filed in the court which had jurisdiction in the matter for its case to be dropped. After that the criminal proceedings were closed.

XS4ALL is not alone in receiving this kind of attention from Scientology. Scientology, a semi-religious multinational, is at war with a number of people on the Internet. A non-organized group of people on the net has started to openly discuss the activities of the church.

John Buchanan - Source is 'The Big Story' - Thanks to Mark Bunker for pic Roxanne Friend sued the Church of Scientology (case number BC 018003 in Superior Court of the state of California for the county of Los Angeles). The Church settled out of court "for nuisance value." Roxanne not much later died of cancer, which may have been cured had she gotten medical attention sooner. Roxanne did not because she felt that Scientology auditing could cure any ill.
The Pinellas County Florida State Attorney dismissed charges against the Church of Scientology today in a highly publicized case. In November, 1998 the State brought charges against the Clearwater based Church, claiming the Church was negligent in caring for one of its parishioners who passed away in December 1995. The decision came after the local Medical Examiner amended the death certificate of Lisa McPherson finding that the death was accidental and not attributable to any actions of the Church or its staff.
Church of Scientology International Department of Human Rights In 1979, Leisa joined Church of Scientology staff, and held the position of Public Relations Director for the Church of Scientology of New Zealand. Her chief interest was in the area of human rights and even then she undertook initiatives to teach human rights to children. She ... supervised Church of Scientology-sponsored holiday programs for children and publicly opposed abusive “treatments” given to psychiatric patients in her effort to bring about reforms.
