CD's Top 100 College Values accompanied an article titled "2007 College Road Map -- Making the Right Choices," which examines how schools are making admissions decisions today. For example, many institutions are attempting to balance their male/female enrollment numbers, meaning young men have a bit of an advantage overall. Two other articles, "Financial Aid: Know Your Options" and "Report Card: Grading Online Education," round out CD's eight-page section.

For that reason, each of the 135 schools evaluated were given a grade of A, B or C, based on their readiness to handle on-campus threats to safety and security. Surprisingly, several urban schools, such as John Hopkins University and New York University, rated higher on campus safety than many schools in suburban areas or smaller cities, such as Bryn Mawr College or Wesleyan University, emphasizing that preparedness has more to do with appropriate allocation of resources and less to do with geographical setting.
SANTA ANA, Calif., Dec. 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Corinthian Colleges, Inc. COCO today announced that it has entered into an asset purchase agreement to sell 12 Canadian schools. These schools, located outside the province of Ontario, are being sold to a wholly owned subsidiary of The Eminata Group, in a cash transaction valued at CAD $7.4 million. The agreement is subject to a negative working capital adjustment to be made at closing. The closing of the transaction is conditioned upon receipt of regulatory approvals, landlord consents, and other customary closing conditions. Corinthian currently expects the transaction to close in its third fiscal quarter. Corinthian Colleges previously announced the planned divestiture of the 12 CDI campuses and has accounted for the schools as discontinued operations.
Consumers Digest first whittled down the list of schools based on a minimum level of academic performance by students institutions accepted. For public schools, the magazine only considered nonresident tuition figures. Military institutions and extremely specialized colleges were excluded. Financial aid was not factored in.

Three of the schools -- Otterbein College in Westerville, Ohio, the University of Colorado at Boulder, and the University of Pennsylvania -- received Presidential Awards for General Community Service. Chaminade University of Honolulu, Syracuse University and the University of Redlands in Redlands, Calif., were recognized for Service to Youth from Disadvantaged Circumstances, a special focus area of this year's Honor Roll competition.

"The divestiture allows us to focus on our 17 Everest schools in the Province of Ontario, where we have the number one position in the career training market and excellent growth potential," said Jack Massimino, Corinthian's chief executive officer. "Our goal was to find a strategic partner for these schools that could add incremental value and be a good home for CDI students and employees."
