Scary Movie: Movies
built 240 days ago
As with the other three Scary Movies though, there is a lot of content that many will find offensive (Scary Movie 1 / Scary Movie 2 / Scary Movie 3). The language is strong, both in profanity as well as sexual dialogue. The sexual references and crude sexual humor are extreme and constant throughout the course of the film. There is fake gore and ridiculously over-done violence. There are ... a few scenes mocking Brokeback Mountain, and though they are done for the sake of a laugh—poking fun at the gay cowboy-themed movie—some will find it offensive.

The title of "Scary Movie" happens to be the original moniker for Wes Craven's 1996 slasher satire "Scream", and indeed watching "Scary Movie" is like sitting through "Scream" next to someone who insists on explaining all the jokes. It's parody of parody -- unworkable, of course, because all it does is take something that's intentionally silly and attempt to mock its ridiculousness. You should know not to see a comedy when its premise reveals that the filmmakers can't identify humour.

Like raptors, the Scary Movie series can adapt to new environments. They used to parody horror films and now they parody any film that has had a huge success. It is pure genius! Even if they only steal 2 percent of the spectators who watched one of the movies they are parodying, it is still 2 percent of a blockbuster, which means hundreds of thousands of people. In essence the backbone of their movie is a list of movies from the previous year. They have invented the "spectator recycling."

The Scary Movie gang is back for the third installment in this spoof series, but they are no longer content to stick to the horror genre. Everything from "Lord of the Rings" to "8 Mile" is up for skewering.

What is most unforgivable is that the central plot of Scary Movie 2 is itself quite weak. Several college students are lured to a haunted house for a weekend when they're told they'll be participating in an insomnia experiment. But once they get to the haunted house, the pretense for their being there is stripped away, and the film simply becomes a series of haunted house gags with a sexual twist. An incubus forces Tori Spelling to perform fellatio. Another ghost possessing the central character gets her to make overtures to the professor, only to turn her into a man in drag before his horrified eyes.

When Scary Movie hit screens in the summer of 2000, its tagline promised “No Mercy. No Shame. No Sequel.” Well, at least the first two were correct, especially the comment about the lack of shame.
