The perpetual engine of the unkillable "Scary Movie" chain is toxic cynicism. At least two of the filmmakers of "Scary Movie 4," director David Zucker and co-writer Jim Abrahams, are parody heroes (they made "Airplane!"). But they seem fully aware that their movie should be projected onto a Glad body bag.

The original "Scary Movie" was easily the best of the series. The premise of the movie was that it mocked memorable scenes from both past and recent horror flicks. While the movie was very funny and original (and was where Courtney Cox and David Arquette met), the sequels left something to be desired.

Scary Movie follows the time, and box-office tested, formula of its predecessors in smacking around numerous Hollywood films. Usually, this ripfest centers on horror and sci-fi films, such as War of the Worlds and Saw, but director David Zucker takes a pleasant jab at the over inflated uber-ego of Nightshade rammalamadigdong’s The Village, which is nicely spoofed as well. The simple genius of the film is to highlight the impressive array of logic errors abundant in so many major releases and it does it well.

Carmen Electra and Chris Elliott are the only supporting cast members to appear in one Scary Movie film by Keenan Ivory Wayans and one by David Zucker. Electra played Drew in Scary Movie and Elliott played Hanson in Scary Movie 2. They are ... the only actors to appear in the series more than once playing different characters.
