Desktop Scanners The flatbed scanner is the most common desktop scanner. With the addition of a transparency adapter, which provides a light source from the top, it can scan 35mm slides and film negatives. The slide scanner is specialized for 35mm slides and film negatives and cannot scan photos. Transparencies are scanned one at a time or in groups, depending on the device (see slide scanner).

Scanner manufacturers usually have their own name attached to this technique. For example, Epson, Nikon, Microtek, and others use Digital ICE, while Canon uses its own Film Automatic Retouching and Enhancement system.[2]

CyberCop Scanner ships with the industry's most comprehensive database of security vulnerabilities, each of which it can scan for, identify and provide information to fix. In addition, the product contains Network Associates' patent-pending AutoUpdate technology, which allows customers to continually add new updates to the local database as they are discovered by NAI Labs. Unlike competitors who expect their customers to perform full software upgrades once per quarter to keep products current with the latest hacker threats, Network Associates supports its customers with automatic monthly updates to its signature database, and rapid-response updates available in real-time as serious threats come to light. This proven model, based on Network Associates' VirusScan technology, keeps CyberCop customers protected from critical vulnerabilities as they are found both "in the wild" and by NAI Labs researchers.

Qmail-Scanner relies on Bruce Guenter's QMAILQUEUE patch to enable qmail-1.03 to call a different qmail-queue program than the one compiled in by default. If you are using netqmail-1.05, then you already have the patch.

"A Scanner Darkly" was shot, locked and edited, just like a normal live-action film. It is then transferred to the animators via Quicktime. "We bring it into the world of animation," says Tommy Pallotta. "We make the same movie twice." The รข€˜second movie,' which gives the hard reality of the first a trippy, pop art twist, is created by a 15-month long computer animation process designed to paint reality, not mimic it. The "painterly" process of interpolated rotoscoping allows animators to paint over live action DV footage in ways similar to putting brush strokes on paper or canvas. The process frees animators from having to hand-draw each line in every frame.
