Saw palmetto is a fan palm that can reach heights of 10 feet in warm climates. In the United States, it grows in the warm climates of the southeast, from South Carolina to Mississippi and throughout Florida. Lush, green leaves fan out from thorny stems. The plant has white flowers, which produce yellow berries. The berries turn bluish-black when ripe, and are dried for medicinal use.

Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw II, Saw III, Saw IV) is directing from a screenplay by Terrence Zdunich and Darren Smith, co-creators of the original stage production of the same name upon which the film is based. Japanese musician, songwriter and composer Yoshiki Hayashi (better known as simply Yoshiki) is producing the film's soundtrack.

The book onSaw IV is pretty straightforward: If you dig torture porn and have already been sucked into the Saw machine, there’s no radical shift into quality filmmaking in the fourth installment that will deter you. Likewise, nothing here will convert anyone who hasn’t kept up with the franchise, especially since some knowledge of the first three is very helpful. Director Darren Lynn Bousman, whose next movie (Repo! The Genetic Opera) is a horror musical starring none other than Paris Hilton—now that’s a scary concept—pretty much sticks with what (apparently) works. It’s all nifty quick cuts all the time, the type of dizzying gimmickry that is evidently favored by Saw fans. And there’s ... plenty of over-the-top gore to go around, of course; all the staples are here.

[Y]es, "Saw III" is as fast paced as its predecessors and the gruesome torture scenes don't disappoint. See it, if you're looking for mindless fun, but don't expect it to knock you off your feet the way the original did. Apparently part 4 is already in the works. Now that's just going to be a waste of time as "Saw III" already ends the series. Guess, Hollywood never learns. "Halloween" anyone?

Saw palmetto has been used by millions of men to ease BPH symptoms and is often recommended as an alternative to the medication finasteride (Proscar). However, a well-conducted study published in the February 9, 2006 edition of the New England Journal of Medicine found that the popular herb was no better than a dummy pill in relieving the signs and symptoms of BPH. Further studies are needed. If you use saw palmetto and think it works, ask your health care provider if you should still take it.
