Huan Subdues Sauron, by Ted Nasmith Sauron was in origin an "angelic" spirit called a Maia. In the earliest of days he was among people of Aulë, the Smith, one of the Valar, or ruling powers of the world. However, Sauron was soon ensnared by Melkor (the Morgoth), who wished to rule and order all Arda. Sauron served Morgoth faithfully, and even in later days, after Morgoth was defeated and locked outside the confines of the world, Sauron encouraged and coerced Men to worship Morgoth as a God. However, while Morgoth wanted to either control or destroy the very matter of Arda itself, Sauron's desire was to dominate the minds and wills of its creatures. It was in this that Sauron was perhaps more practical than his master Morgoth.
Sauron - movie Sauron was one of the Maiar - spirits who helped and served the Powers known as the Valar. He came into existence before the creation of the world. Sauron was not evil in the beginning. At first he was a Maia of Aule, the Vala whose domain was the substances of which the earth was made. Aule was a smith and a master of crafts and works of skill, and Sauron learned much from him about making, forging, and creating.

Genetic enhancement by the Weapon X Program granted Sauron the ability to expel the energy he absorbs as blasts of concussive energy from his hands. Recently, Sauron’s powers mutated further, allowing him to absorb and utilize mutant powers as well as breathe fire.

Lord of the Rings Fantasy World Sauron’s foul deeds began in 457 of the First Age. At that time he invaded an isle of Tol Sirion and there created a harbour of Evil, and ruled over the werewolves. He could easily shift his shape to those of a wolf and other beings. In “The Silmarillion” there is a legend about Berenand Luthien Tinuviel, mentioning the name of Sauron. According to this he captured Beren, and killed Finrod Felagun, an elven Prince. But an elven maiden, Luthien, with a werewolf Huan came to rescue her beloved.
Marvel Comics Sauron soon battled the X-Men, but fled when Havok awoke, causing him to begin to change back to human form. Soon afterwards, Lykos had an argument with Dr. Andersson, who still refused to permit him to marry Tanya. Then Lykos drained energy from the mutant Lorna Dane, the future Polaris, causing him to transform into Sauron again (see Polaris). After siphoning more energy from the Angel and Havok, Sauron flew to the Anderssons' home to kill them. The Anderssons recognized Sauron's voice as that of Lykos just before the X-Men arrived and Sauron fled.
