Eye of Sauron is a test scheduler that repeatedly performs a series of tests then, depending on the results, performs an action. Unlike other system monitors, like nagios, sauron tests can be given as plain bash commands, making it very easy to setup.

Sauron was represented by the Lidless Eye, which was his emblem. The Eye of Sauron was rimmed with red fire and the pupil was as black as a bottomless void. The Eye was ever-watchful and far-seeing.

In the book, there are many other instances where Sauron is referred to as the "Red Eye" - which have led some to assume that it was his physical form. However, a closer reading shows that the "Eye" was a metaphysical reflection of his piercing will.

(Darkhawk#19) - Sauron, eager for revenge on his enemies, was pleased when Toad had the Brotherhood go after Portal, an ally who could give them teleporting capabilities. They used teamwork to attack several Guardsmen who were trying to capture Portal, and made sure to kill each of the guards. Sauron broke one man' neck after lifting him into the sky. Toad killed one by clogging the man' mouth and eyes with resin. They pursued Portal, who tried to run, but the heroes Darkhawk and Spider-Man attacked. Sauron tried hypnotizing Darkhawk, but Spider-Man kicked him aside.
