Sauron: Ages
built 274 days ago
Sauron, whose name means "the abhorred", was a Maia serving the evil Vala known as Melkor, the Enemy. When Melkor ruled his dark kingdom of Utumno, he set Sauron to rule his armory in Angband. Sauron remained his general, taking care of business, even after the War of Powers at the end of the First Age of Stars, when Melkor (by then called Morgoth) was chained. After Melkor's final defeat and the destruction of Angband, Sauron remained, becoming the chief architect of evil in Middle-earth.

Through war after war, Sauron allowed his enemies to support one another and sometimes to work together. It would not be until Barad-dur was besieged and Sauron's plans lay dashed in blood across the landscape that he finally figured out what he was doing wrong. He needed to isolate his enemies from one another. He launched a final, desperate attack against Gil-galad and slew the Elven-king, but Elendil stood close by and was able to strike a mortal blow to Sauron. The last combat on Orodruin may have been more an act borne of frustration than anything else. Even without Gil-galad, the Last Alliance had won the war.

In 1851, Sauron's emissaries incited a group of Men from Rhun known as the Wainriders to attack Gondor. King Narmacil II of Gondor was slain in battle. Gondor lost much of its territory east of the Anduin as the borders were withdrawn to the river and the Emyn Muil. Narmacil's son Calimehtar defeated the Wainriders in battle in 1899, but the Wainriders made alliances with the Men of Khand and Near Harad in the south and attacked again in great force in 1944. King Ondoher was slain and Gondor nearly came to ruin, but Earnil, the Captain of the Southern Army, vanquished the Wainriders in the Battle of the Camp.

(Deadpool III#57) - Sauron was recruited by the Weapon X program. They altered his powers to be able to drain energy from machines as well, and tested him against some fighter planes.

In the Third Age, Sauron rose again, at first in a stronghold called Dol Guldur, the Hill of Sorcery, in Southern Mirkwood. There he was known as the Necromancer, and the elves did not realize at first that it was actually Sauron returned. Gandalf the wizard stole into Dol Guldur and discovered the truth; then the White Council of wizards and elves put forth their might and drove Sauron out. But he simply moved back to Mordor and raised again his dark tower, called Barad-Dûr. He fortified Mordor and prepared for war against Gondor and the elves.

A scene considered, but later changed, for The Return of the King, was one where Sauron would appear at the battle before the Black Gate, and fight Aragorn. He would appear first in his Second Age guise of Annatar, transforming to the armoured figure seen in the Last Alliance flashbacks only after Aragorn had finally rejected Sauron's offers of surrender. Subsequently, Sauron was replaced by a computer-generated troll to fight Aragorn.
