Satanism: Theistic Satanism
built 631 days ago
Generally, the word "Satanism" is used to describe several distinct spiritual practices and beliefs; the two most significant seem to be LaVeyan Satanism and Theistic Satanism. Ideas about Satanism range from essentially these two sources.[3]
[Spiral Nature] Modern Satanism is probably the widest-spread of the Satanic denominations, and ... the biggest "bone of contention" amongst the others. Modernists do not worship Satan as a god or deity; theistically, they are atheists. They believe in neither a god nor a devil, nor spirits and "supernatural beings." Needless to say, it is usually not the Modernists who appear on Jerry Springer or get featured in the headlines of the local newspapers. The main "argument" over the Modernists is that, if they are in truth atheistic, why even bother using the name "Satan?" Why not just call yourself atheists or humanists or secular humanists, et al., instead of dragging in the name of a Christian boogyman?
Theistic Satanism contains a very broad scope of religious groups from Pagans celebrating Pan to Yezidis worshipping Melek Taus, Shaytan. There are many modern groups of Theistic Satanists but most consider themselves to be Satanists and see no need for the use of the word Theistic. One more group that falls under the definition of Theistic Satanism would be, "Reverse Christians", being that they practice what Christians claim Satanists do and worship what they consider to be the enemy of Christ and God.

Varieties of Satanism range from belief in and worship of an actual spiritual being (Theistic Satanism) to belief in the Christian devil; from the practice of an ancient but misunderstood religion (e.g. Setianism associated with the Egyptian god Set who is conflated by some with the Biblical Satan), to the atheist[4] exaltation of hedonistic recreation and the celebration of self-interest and pleasure as rational practices
