Satanism: Anton Lavey
built 223 days ago
Satanism - The cult of Satan, or Satan worship, is in part a survival of the ancient worship of demons and in part a revolt against Christianity or the church. It rose about the 12th cent. in Europe and reached its culmination in the blasphemous ritual of the Black Mass, a desecration of the Christian rite. The history of early Satanism is obscure. It was revived in the reign of Louis XIV in France and is still practiced by various groups throughout the world, particularly in the United States. One of the largest and most influential Satanic groups is the Church of Satan (1966), founded by Anton LaVey in San Francisco. A splinter group, the Temple of Set (1975), was organized by Michael Aquino.

Satanism is ... criticized as a recycled version of older ideas such as existentialism and perhaps individualism. LaVey has described his Satanism as "just Ayn Rand's philosophy with ceremony and ritual added" [2]. Critics have suggested that LaVey simply took the philosophy of Satanism from Rand and Friedrich Nietzsche, adding on the symbol of Satan and watered down versions of magical ideas taken from Aleister Crowley.
Satanism is to corrupt the masses away from God. It's very fundamental is to ruin the moral fabric in society to create generations of self serving, self indulging, and consiousless people. The main forms of self-morality evils are purpotrated through typical "black" satanism. This goes even to the church of Satan headed co-founded by Anton Lavey and Kenneth "Anger". Satanism has never drawn away from the concept of the "do what thy wilt" principal.

The Church of Satan gave Satanism a new respectability. Its scripture, The Satanic Bible, became a steady seller at newsstands, and LaVey attracted some celebrities to his organization. During the early 1970s... the church went through a period of turmoil and a number of splinter groups emerged. The most substantive of these (and the only one to survive the decade) was the Temple of Set. Founded by Michael Aquino and Lilith Sinclair, two prominent leaders in the Church of Satan, the temple became the home of a sophisticated Satanic theology developed from Egyptian thought.

There have been witches who have said that "witchcraft is not part of Satanism." However, Anthon Szander Lavey has said, "Call it black or call it white, it all gets its power from the source of hell."
