The genealogy of the SAT is far more authentic than the importance attached to the test's scores. The SAT was born from the initial IQ tests, written by French psychologist Alfred Binet. In the US, Lewis Terman and Robert Yerkes promoted the IQ test and made it a popular instrument to determine who should be an officer, in a segregated military, during WWI . Their IQ test was designed to prove the genetic advantage of races they had already identified as superior. Terman and Yerkes were executives in the American Eugenics Society (Mehler).

Make sure that you know exactly where the SAT test center is and how long it takes to get to there. Try to arrive at the test center at least 30 minutes before your SAT appointment. You will need to check in prior to taking the test. Also, do not forget to bring your SAT admission ticket and a photo ID.

When you decide to take an SAT or PSAT test, you should enroll for the test as soon as possible. Since it is so easy to enroll online, some test locations fill up early and you may have a limited choice of test sites.

Sunday administrations will occur the day after each Saturday test date for students who cannot test on Saturday for religious reasons. The October Sunday Test day is October 22, to avoid conflict with Jewish holiday of Simchat Torah.

The other half of the SAT tests your math skills, ranging from Arithmetic through Geometry and Algebra II. Although it is unlikely that in the months, weeks, or days(!) before you take your SATs you will substantially expand your knowledge of math, you can make sure that you remember what you have already learned and build on the math skills you already have.
