Saskatchewan is the largest uranium producing jurisdiction in the world and accounted for all of Canadian production in 1998. Uranium is currently produced from three mines in the province and is sold to utilities in North America, Europe, and East Asia. Two gold mines operate in Saskatchewan.

Saskatchewan today has more road surface than any other province. In 2003, registered road motor vehicles numbered 709,788. 3,820 buses, 5,132 motorcycles and mopeds, and 110,843 trailers. Both Regina and Saskatoon have bus systems with more than 110 buses in each fleet.

Until 1870, the land that was to become the province of Saskatchewan lay under the suzerainty of the Hudson's Bay Company's flag. In that year Canada purchased the land and there ensued a series of treaties whereby Indian tribes relinquished their territorial rights in exchanged for reserve lands, monetary payments, schooling, and miscellaneous minor considerations such as flags. Beyond the treaties, flags were ... presented to various Indian chiefs, councillors and headmen for loyalty to the Crown and Canada at any time, but especially following the 1885 Rebellion. These flags were usually the Canadian Red or Blue Ensign which served to emphasize the Canadian sovereignty of the land.1

Saskatchewan became a province in 1905. In the early 20th cent. Saskatchewan farmers formed cooperative organizations to stabilize grain marketing. During the drought and depression of the 1930s the population declined as immigration almost stopped and many families left. Conservation programs and the increased demand for grain during World War II revived the economy.

The Saskatchewan Registered Music Teachers’ Association was formed in 1932 as a provincial organization of music teachers, several years after the formation of smaller branches throughout the province. The first provincial convention took place in Regina in 1934 with Mr. George Palmer, Saskatoon being elected as the first Provincial President. and Grace Knowlden, Regina as secretary.
